Revolutionary Ideas Will Take Root in Boston!
After nearly a decade, the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) Annual Conference will return to Boston, September 13-16, 2026, at the Encore Boston Harbor. Hundreds of lab owners, operators, designers, engineers, managers, builders, developers, and green labs professionals will gather for technical sessions, take local lab tours, engage with vendors at the Technology Fair, network with peers, and explore what Boston has to offer. With a record number of abstracts submitted, we are excited to offer four different tracks featuring over 100 presentations on system optimization, sustainable lab design, decarbonization, and sustainable science practices. Register for the conference by July 10 to take advantage of our early-bird rates!
Looking to jump-start your learning, or just getting started in your sustainable lab journey? You can register for an optional pre-conference workshop on Sunday, September 13. I2SL offers two full-day workshops, one a deep dive on lab ventilation management and the other an introductory course on sustainable lab design. There is also a half-day workshop on the Labs2Zero program tools, including the Laboratory Benchmarking Tool (LBT) and the Actionable Insights and Measures (AIM) Report, I2SL’s automated energy audit software tool for lab buildings. The LBT is free to use, and taking the workshop earns you a deep discount on the AIM software subscription, so the course ultimately pays for itself!
Throughout the conference, attendees will be able to engage with Technology Fair vendors showcasing their latest products, solutions, and technologies addressing lab sustainability and energy efficiency challenges in the exhibit hall. Be sure to come to the Welcome Reception on September 14 to meet the vendors and network with your peers. On September 15, I2SL will recognize this year’s Sustainable Lab Award winners during the Awards Luncheon, so come and get inspired!
Boston has a booming life science industry and history of revolutionary ideas in sustainability. The Encore Boston Harbor offers complimentary water shuttles to downtown Boston, allowing you to explore the city during the evenings of the conference. Take in the history of the city by walking the 2.5-mile Freedom Trail or visit the historic North End for some famous pasta and cannoli! Boston is also home to renowned academic institutions that I2SL will be visiting as part of optional off-site tours on Tuesday, September 15. Sign up to tour Harvard’s Science and Engineering Complex; Northeastern University’s new EXP science and research precinct; or a lab incubator (including a vivarium) at the 100 Chestnut Street lab facility.
If you are planning to attend, don’t wait to book your accommodations at the Encore Boston Harbor! I2SL has a discounted room rate available for all attendees. Space is limited, so reserve your room now to get the best rate. If you have any questions, contact info@i2sl.org. We look forward to meeting you in Boston this fall!
