In 2026, the Freezer Challenge continued to grow with over 4,000 labs participating representing 268 organizations across 42 countries. Participants performed over 129,000 direct actions to save over 29.7 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity. These energy savings helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 19,943 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, which is equal to 4,652 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles removed from the road for a year!
