First Class of Professionals Earns Accreditation as Labs2Zero Champions

This spring, I2SL launched a free professional accreditation for those who wish to champion energy efficiency measures and Labs2Zero tools for improving lab buildings. I2SL’s first class of Labs2Zero Champions includes representatives from I2SL’s chapters across the United States, Australia, and the U.K. These 23 laboratory professionals are helping spread the word about how to save energy and operating costs at their own organizations and beyond.

Labs2Zero offers energy performance assessment and improvement tools for lab buildings, developed with input from experienced industry professionals who volunteer their time and expertise. Labs2Zero Champions share the information they have learned about how to assess and improve energy performance in labs and have demonstrated their knowledge about leveraging resources such as the Laboratory Benchmarking Tool, Energy and Operational Emissions Scores, and the AIM Report, I2SL’s automated energy audit software tool that identifies energy- and cost-saving opportunities in lab buildings.

To earn this accreditation, Champions attend a one-hour virtual training and pass a brief online knowledge test. The Labs2Zero Champions training includes information about the specific systems that make laboratory buildings unique and how to most effectively reduce energy use in these facilities. It introduces the various Labs2Zero tools and how to apply them in real-word scenarios, as well as best practices for sharing Labs2Zero information and updates using a library of educational materials. Chuck Blanchette, representing I2SL’s New England Chapter, said of the training, “This makes everything clearer, and I feel more at ease presenting and spreading the information to others.”

Upon accreditation, Champions receive the following benefits:

  • Labs2Zero Champion logo for use in email signatures, presentations, and other applications.

  • Access to a suite of educational tools, including PowerPoint slides, graphics, fact sheets, videos, and more.

  • Early insights into Labs2Zero updates and the ability to help shape the program.

  • Completion certificate and listing on the I2SL website.

Champion trainings scheduled for this summer are now full. Email info@i2sl.org to be notified of future opportunities. I2SL also plans to provide accreditation in the future for Labs2Zero Experts, a paid training that will instruct professionals on how to train others to use the program’s performance assessment and improvement tools.
