Ductless Hoods–SEFA 9

This presentation will cover the completion of SEFA 9, the first U.S. standard for ductless technology. The presenters will review ductless versus conventional fume hoods and discuss overall energy efficiency.


Kevin Gilkison, director of ventilation technologies at Labconco Corporation and SEFA 9 Ductless Committee Chair, oversees the development of the ventilation product lines that include laboratory fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, safety enclosures, custom ventilation enclosures, and the furniture project segment of Labconco's business.

He has over 30 years of laboratory ventilation and fume hood design experience. He is currently a technical committee member of NFPA–45, Standard on Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals and ASHRAE Standard 110-95, Method of Testing Performance of Laboratory Fume Hoods. Mr. Gilkison holds a Bachelor of Science in construction engineering from Kansas State University.

Kevin McGough, vice president and general manager for AirClean® Systems in Raleigh, North Carolina. He oversees the day-to-day operations of AirClean Systems and manages the output and quality of a variety of product lines that include ductless hoods, laminar flow workstations, gas phase carbon filters, traditional fume hoods with wet scrubber systems, and custom enclosures. Mr. McGough has over 15 years of ductless hood and gas phase carbon filtration experience. He is currently an active committee member of the Triangle Manufacturing Association and the Miami University Alumni International Business Association. He holds a Bachelor of Science in finance from Miami University (Ohio).

Stephan Hauville is president of Erlab Worldwide. Mr. Hauville earned a Bachelor in Science in international business administration from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachussetts. In 1991 he joined Erlab as an assistant to the sales team. He worked his way up the corporate ladder, first as a sales tech, then a sales manager, and went on to become vice president of Erlab USA. Most recently, Mr. Hauville was named president of Erlab Worldwide, overseeing the United States, Europe, and China operations and management. He served as the chairman of SEFA's Ductless Committee for its first four years of existence and has served on SEFA's Board of Directors since 2004 as its international liaison.
