Dear I2SL Chapter Officers,
As many of you have had to cancel upcoming events due to concerns about coronavirus, I wanted to make you aware of a helpful resource that could connect you to members of your community virtually. Google has recently announced that it is temporarily granting free access to its advanced Google Hangout Meet videoconferencing service to all G Suite and G Suite Education customers.
The advanced Hangout platform offers several benefits, including:
- Larger meetings, for up to 250 participants per call
- Live streaming for up to 100,000 viewers within a domain
- The ability to record meetings and save them to Google Drive
If you are not currently a G Suite customer, you can sign up for a 14-day free trial, which will give you access to the virtual meeting services. The free access to the advanced Hangout Meet will be available until July 1, 2020. If you would like to utilize G Suite’s services past the 14-day trial period, a subscription is only $6.00/month.
You can also check out Zoom as a distance learning tool. There are both free and paid subscriptions for Zoom that can help you facilitate meetings and trainings.
These may be a good alternative for chapters who would like to continue with their programming while practicing good social distancing habits.
Please let me know if you have any questions about these services or if you know of any other potential options for chapters to conduct virtual trainings.
