How to Realize the Benefits of a Laboratory Ventilation Management Plan and Review of Smart Labs Successes

Can you manage complex laboratory ventilation systems and multiple stakeholders without a plan? Will the energy savings you modelled persist to fulfill the return on investment you predicted? A solid laboratory ventilation management plan (LVMP) guides operations, design, and interdepartmental communication, and it improves overall site resilience. It is required by the AIHA/ANSI Standard z9.5, and it is also a core part of the Smart Labs strategy. While a coordinator is helpful, teamwork, leadership, and "engineers with attitude" are also important to achieve dynamic and manageable buildings at peak performance. Finally, a site Green Labs program can integrate its affirmative and encouraging messages to ensure that lab practices are both safe and sustainable.

We will present experiences and lessons learned from higher education and federal laboratories to help maximize benefits received from a comprehensive LVMP.
