I2SL University Alliance Meeting on Bringing Efficiency to Research Grants (BETR Grants)
5 p.m.–6:30 p.m.

BETR Grants is about finding ways to connect efficiency to federally supported research for the dual benefit of reducing the environmental footprint of research while maximizing the effective, efficient use of federal research dollars. Kathy Ramirez-Aguilar of CU Boulder, chairperson for I2SL's University Alliance Group (UAG), will host a meeting focused on planning the group's activities for the year, especially a campaign to promote the BETR Grants website, which calls for voluntary inclusion of descriptions of efficient practices and/or facilities into federal grant proposals by university scientists and research administrators. The group welcomes anyone to attend who is interested in learning about this initiative and contributing to the group's efforts.

High-Technology Operations and Maintenance Certification Working Group Meeting
5 p.m.–6:30 p.m.

This session will provide an update on the I2SL training programs for implementing smart labs. The discussions will focus on marketing the benefits of Smart Labs Training, becoming a I2SL Smart Labs Trainer, and rollout of the courses through the I2SL Chapters.

Laboratory Waste Diversion Working Group Meeting
7 a.m.–8 a.m.

Landfill diversion of non-contaminated lab waste is a major burden for a lab in terms of cost, space, and time. The International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL), being the premier organization addressing sustainability issues related to laboratories, now welcomes this topic as a major issue. Therefore, this working group meeting is scheduled for all interested to follow-up on the presentations and panel discussion held on Tuesday in session C-2. I2SL's user community welcomes the opportunity to engage with the lab product manufacturers and suppliers to advance the upstream capacity to divert lab waste from landfills.

Laboratory Benchmarking Working Group Meeting
1 p.m.–2:30 p.m.

This meeting will focus on finalizing plans for the new I2SL Lab Benchmarking Tool (which will soon replace the well-known and aging Labs21 Tool). The new tool is being developed as part of the Department of Energy Smart Lab Accelerator program, and the I2SL Lab Benchmarking Working Group is leading its development. All interested parties are welcome to attend and to give feedback on our current plans and ideas for new features. Please join us and help to ensure that the new tool provides what you want and need in a benchmarking portal!
