This presentation will provide an overview that includes:

  1. A summary overview of KSU/NBAF's past, current and future for those that missed the Plenary.
  2. A brief discussion describing some of the key project challenges that still need to be addressed.
  3. How KSU's Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI) is currently developing the future workforce for NBAF by conducting NBAF research.
  4. Once NBAF is completed, how KSU's BRI and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) might support NBAF's research and diagnostic missions.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain an understanding of the requirements and needs for designing, building and operating NBAF.
  • Learn about the significance of the KSU/NBAF collaboration and its important role in the Bio-Ag arena.
  • Learn what it will take to successfully operate NBAF.
  • Understand some of the challenges are that still need to be addressed for such a large and significant facility project.

Biography:

Dr. Ron Trewyn is Kansas State University's liaison to the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF). As the NBAF liaison, Dr. Trewyn works to coordinate opportunities with NBAF for the university, the city, and the state. Prior to his current position, he served as Kansas State University's vice president for research and led the university's efforts to bring NBAF to Kansas.
