Singapore Sustainable Laboratories Opportunities

As Singapore moves towards a more knowledge-based economy, with more investments in R&D, laboratories form an integral part of its densely populated tropical urban environment. With ambitious goals on environmental sustainability, Singapore will play a key role in advancing sustainability efforts in the Asia Pacific region. The Singapore Sustainable Laboratories (S2Lab) Group was set up to bring together laboratory professionals in Singapore to discuss challenges and opportunities for sustainable development in laboratories.

Learning Objectives

  • Introduce the Singapore context for economic development, policies and opportunities in the region.
  • Present the unique challenges for laboratories and buildings in hot tropical environments such as Singapore.
  • Describe about the setup and goals of the S2Lab group in Singapore (the first I2SL chapter outside the US).
  • Discuss on lab-specific opportunities in Singapore.


Mr. Nilesh Y. Jadhav is currently a Senior Scientist and Program Director at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He leads the EcoCampus initiative at NTU, which epitomises the combination of R&D, test-bedding and industry collaboration to achieve a high impact urban sustainability showcase for Singapore. He is also the chairman of the S2Lab group formed as an I2Sl international chapter in Singapore in collaboration with the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS).
