Green Tips for Exhibitors
In an effort to reduce the ecological footprint of the Labs21 Technology and Services Fair for exhibitors, the following list of waste-reduction tips. With your help, we hope to significantly lessen the environmental impact of our event!
Reduce
- Try to bring "just enough" literature and giveaways to hand out. Rather than distributing informational handouts in mass quantities, offer attendees a business card or a simple flyer to direct them to your website where they can find more information on your products and services. Also, use double-sided printing on all handouts.
- Keep giveaways useful. Useless giveaways, no matter how clever, tend to end up in the trash. When possible, use “green” giveaways such as those that are reusable (e.g., nametags and binders), are made from recycled materials, and have little or no packaging. When you buy goods with recycled content, your purchases help to create a demand for materials collected in recycling programs.
Reuse
- Avoid dating your handouts so they can be reused at a different conference.
- Take home leftover promotional items. Taking your promotional literature and giveaways home saves your company money and time, and keeps these materials out of a landfill.
Recycle
- Recycle any waste that is left over at the end of the conference. As you get ready to head home, consolidate recyclable items and place them in the recycle bins placed around the exhibit area. If no bins are available at the facility, place your recyclables in one place in your booth so our clean up crew can get them to the proper bins.
- Empty water bottles and place them on top of your booth table or leave them on your chair so our crew can gather them for recycling.
- Here is a list of items you may have in your booth that can be recycled:
- Aseptic packaging and cartons (e.g., drink boxes you often find in packed lunches)
- Corrugated cardboard
- Brown paper
- Magazines and catalogs
- Office paper
- Plastic bottles (please empty contents before you leave)
- Glass bottles (please empty contents before you leave)
- Scrap paper
- Junk mail
- Tin and aluminum cans (please empty contents before you leave)
- Packing peanuts
- Shrink wrap
Make sure that event attendees are aware of your environmental efforts. Labs21 attendees are particularly sensitive to the environment, so take this opportunity to exhibit your leadership and share your environmental commitment with potential clients.
